Raymond D. Metz Jr., 75, of Gross Towers, Allentown, formerly of Easton, died Thursday, Dec. 31, in St. Luke's Hospital, Allentown Campus. He was the husband of May I. (Smith) Metz. They were married for 55 years last month. He owned the Happy Carpet Man, Allentown, until retiring in 1988, and was a race announcer for Blue Mountain Quarter Midget Races. Born in Phillipsburg, he was a son of the late Raymond D. Sr. and Martha (Steckert) Metz. He was a volunteer for social activities at Gross Towers and a past Noble Grand of the International Order of Odd Fellows, Lehigh Lodge 83, Allentown. A member of the Municipal Opera Company, Civic Theatre and Guthsville Playhouse, he performed with his family in a 1961 Guthsville production of "The Man Who Came to Dinner." He was also a member of the Jolly Gadgeteers and YMCA Men's Club, both of Allentown. Survivors: Wife; son, Raymond D. III and daughter Sheri, both of Pennsville; sisters, Dorothy Eliason of Riegelsville, N.J., Alice Tigar of Seattle, Wash., and a grandson. |
