James A. Brewer, 76, who operated a Sunoco station at 25th street and Freesmansburg Ave. for 25 years until his retirement five years ago, died Saturday night in Easton Hospital after an Illness of three weeks. Mr. Brewer made his home with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John W Bickel 2511 Freesmansburg Ave, Palmer Township. A Carpenter, he formerly was employed for 22 years by Otto A. Betchel & Sons contractors. Born Dec. 18, 1880 in Portland he was a son of the late Abram L. and Lizzie Brewer. He had lived in the Easton area about 50 years. He and his wife, the late Lottie Andrews Brewer, were head sacristans at the church for many years. He also was a former superintendent of the Sunday school and former member of the trombone choir. He was a member of Victory Council 308, Junior Order United American Mechanics, of which he was financial secretary for many years; Victory Council 129, Sons and Daughters of Liberty and Lehicton Lodge 244, Odd Fellows, all of Easton. Surviving besides his daughter, Evelyn, are three brothers, Burton, Easton; Harold, Wilson, and Lester, Richmond; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Stackhouse, Ackermanville, and Mrs. Nellie Meixsell, Stockertown, and two granddaughters. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Shillinger Funeral Home. |
