| Carl "Una" Metz, 76 Former Area Athlete Carl "Una" Metz Sr., 76, of 113 Ferry St., former area baseball coach, manager and player died this morning in Easton Hospital where he was admitted April 23. Mr. Metz was born Feb. 28, 1893, in Springtown, N.J., a son of the late Benjamin and Mary Baker Metz. He lived in the Easton-Phillipsburg area all his life. His wife the former Carrie McCormick died in 1929. Mr. Metz was player, manager and coach of the Easton Athletic Association, Glendon and Easton Arrows baseball teams in the 1930's. He continued playing baseball until several years ago. He retired in 1961 from the UGI where he was employed 15 years. He formerly worked for General Supply Co. 25 years. An Army veteran of World War I, he served in France and was a member of Lest Pfeffer Post 611, American Legion. Survivors include two sons, Carl Junior., Palmer Township, and Raymond, Old Saybrook, Conn.; a daughter, Ruth Metz, Easton; 10 Grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Strunk Funeral Home, Easton. |
